It has been roughly assessed that the amount of iron wasted due to corrosion is one-fourth of the world production. The direct loss due to corrosion in India amount to Rs 200 crore/annum while money spent annually in controlling corrosion is the order of Rs 50 crore. The water quality plays a important role in corrosion.
