Whereas Sasthamcotta lake in Kunnathoor Taluk of Kollam district is the largest fresh water lake of Kerala, source of water supply to Kollam Municipal Corporation and suburbs and is a Ramsar site deserving to be protected from pollution, sedimentation and encroachment; whereas the lake is subjected to pollution of anthropogenic origin; whereas urgent preventive and mitigative measures are required to restore and protect the wholesomeness of the lake.
