The Jaipur Foot has two parts: the factory-made foot and the custom-made plastic mould. The foot is fashioned out of two pieces of microcellular rubber and a wooden ankle piece. Fingers are attached separately. The rubber gives the foot the flexibility and the ability to absorb the shock. The assembled foot is covered with skin-coloured rubber and put in a die, ready to be steamed at high pressure, which makes the rubber stronger. This foot is attached to a custom-made limb, which has a socket for the undeveloped or amputated leg and a mould made of skin-coloured, high-density polyethylene pipe.
