 INACTIVE GOVERNMENT [1]

The Delhi high court has directed the city government to state the reason for closing a "refuse incinerator cum-power' plant. Responding to a public interest litigation ( pil ), the court also issued notices to the ministries of finance and non conventional energy sources. According to the pil , the incinerator could not be made functional as the city government had failed to assure the free supply of garbage and purchasing power to be generated by the plant. The government had spent Rs 1.58 crore on the plant, set up in March 1985, to treat garbage collected from the cities.
