A fact finding Expert Committee was constituted as per the directions of the Honourable National Green Tribunal (South zone) dated 21st March 2013 in Application Nos. 06 and 12 of 2013. On 23rd May 2013, the fact finding committee, along with a team consisting of representatives of Environment Support Group, Alternative Law Forum, Maithreyi and various individuals, visited the Challakere Amrit Mahal Kavals of Chitradurga District so as to determine the extent of diversion of the Kavals to various infrastructural, commercial,research and defence purposes as well as to attend public hearings of the affected villages so as to determine the effect of the diversion on the local community.
