Maldives State of Environment Report: The Monthly Overview, November, 2014 [1]

ENVIRONMENT
Maldives Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has called on the international community to give due consideration to the specific challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in phasing out harmful emissions.

HABITAT
The new green tax for tourists will be introduced in Maldives,  from November 2015 at a rate of US$6 per bed per night, revealed Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adeeb.

SANITATION
Deputy Head of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Liu Qieng has stated that the Chinese government will assist Maldives in dealing with the waste management issue which has become one of the main environmental problems that Maldives has been facing.

HEALTH
China has revealed that they will give full co-operation to the Maldives to develop the Maldivian health sector. Maldives Interim Health Minister, Mohamed Nazim has revealed that the biggest budget of 2015 will be allocated for the development of the health sector. He said that the estimated budget for the health sector is MVR 4.8 billion.

ENERGY  
Gasfinolhu Island Resort in Maldives, has begun functioning on electricity generated from solar power. This is the first time that a resort in the Maldives is functioning completely on clean energy. China has  pledged to provide the Maldives with 200,000 energy efficient LED lights as part of an MoU for the provision of goods to assist in combatting climate change.
