Rooftop revolution: uncovering the solar potential of Patna [1]

Uncovering Patna’s solar potential is the first step towards positioning rooftop solar as a solution to the state’s power woes. This report provides the city’s stakeholders, data and insights needed to ensure the solar revolution in Patna. The outcome from BRIDGE TO INDIA model, reveals that Patna has a geographical potential to install 759 MW of rooftop solar, where the power demand during peak summer is around 600 MW in 2014. BRIDGE TO INDIA team envisages a road map for Patna to become energy self-sufficient by adopting solar in a phased manner without worrying about storage. Patna is capable of adding 277 MW by 2025 without any technical challenges or expensive investments into their grid structure, which is about 20% of the city’s power requirement.
