4th cycle of management effectiveness evaluation of tiger reserves in India 2018 [1]

India has 2,967 tigers, a third more than in 2014, according to results of this tiger census titled released on July 29, 2019 by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi . Madhya Pradesh saw the highest number of tigers at 526, closely followed by Karnataka (524) and Uttarakhand (442).

On the occasion of International Tiger Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the results of the fourth cycle of All India Tiger Estimation - 2018, in New Delhi. The count of tigers in India has risen to 2967, in 2018, according to this census. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister described this as a historic achievement for India, and reaffirmed India’s commitment towards protecting the tiger. The Prime Minister appreciated the speed and dedication with which various stakeholders worked to achieve this. The Prime Minister said that with almost 3000 tigers, India is today among the biggest and most secure habitats. [2]
