Order of the Supreme Court of India in the M.C. Mehta Vs Union of India dated 29/01/2021.
Permission was sought for felling of 317 trees, which were coming in the way of the project of widening and strengthening of a six-lane road from Avantibai crossing to Rohta.
The SC directed the state of Uttar Pradesh to reexamine the need for widening and strengthening of six-lane road and possibility of saving a greater number of trees in the process. The Central Empowered Committee (CEC) has been asked to submit fresh suggestions within four weeks.
