The apex court was apparaised of the fact that since the orders of the SC (February 8, 2017 and October 4, 2017) there has been material change in the extent of wetlands identified under the Indian Wetlands Atlas 2021 prepared by ISRO which has increased from 2.01 lakh hectares to 2.31 lakh hectares. Hence, it was submitted that the protection which was granted by the court should be extended to the expanded area as well.

Additional Solicitor General requested the SC for grant of some time to look into this aspect, which was granted and the court will next hear the case on July 21, 2023.
