Aishwarya Bhati, Additional Solicitor General, stated that pursuant to the order dated April 10, 2023 responses have been received by the Union government only from governments in Delhi, Haryana, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. The Supreme Court directed all other States/Union Territories to submit their responses positively by August 31, 2023. The apex court directed that the copy of the order should be made available to the Chief Secretaries of the remaining states and Union Territories for compliance.

The states/Union Territories which are in default were placed on notice that should there be any further default in submitting their responses, the SC would be "constrained to take recourse to the coercive arm of the law".

The SC will next hear the case on November 6, 2023.
