NEW DELHI, 29 AUG: It was a week that saw parliament pushing for increased nuclear power generation for an energy-thirsty nation and also for putting more money into the pockets of the lawmakers. The two relevant legislation were in the half-way stage as the Bills concerned still awaited passage in the Rajya Sabha.

The Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill, 2010 seeks to create a mechanism for compensating victims of nuclear damage arising from a nuclear incident.  The Standing Committee tabled its report in Parliament on August 19, 2010, following which the government circulated a list of amendments to the Bill.
