 Vaccine for influenza [1]

A nasal vaccine for influenza, containing inactivated viruses, has proved effective in trials on 51 volunteer medical students in Israel. Although the medical students were exposed to the illness on a daily basis during their work, none of the immunised students caught flu. Developed by Zichira Zakey-Romes of the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem, this vaccine includes three influenza strains recommended by the World Health Organization. The nasal vaccine was found to be considerably more effective than injected vaccine, which offers only partial protection (The Lancet@ Vol 349, No 9059).
