This document contains the Joint statement issued by BASIC Ministers during 10th BASIC Meeting held in New Delhi on 13-14 Feb 2012.
The minister welcomed the agreement on the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol (KP) and stressed that the Annex-1 nations would have to provide information on their quantified emission reduction objectives by May 2012. non-KP Annex-1 parties would also need to undertake comparable commitments. Environment Ministers of the BASIC countries — Brazil, South Africa, India and China, talked about the issue of EU’s Emission Trading Scheme and said that measure on aviation sector “violates international law including the principles and provisions of UNFCCC”.
