Over the years, there has been a gradual recognition of the potentially important role to be played by the states in helping India achieve its renewable energy (RE) targets, with national agencies emphasising a vertical integration of the RE policy and a strengthening of state capacities. At present, states policies play a central role in the implementation of India’s renewable energy and energy efficiency policies. The states do not merely implement national renewable energy policies, but have their own exclusive policies promoting the generation of electricity from solar, wind and biomass. The present study is focused on climate mitigation actions undertaken in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
