Hunger remains one of the most pressing global challenges today, with Africa particularly vulnerable. In 2023 alone, 868 million Africans faced food insecurity, including 342 million, or one in five Africans, who suffered from severe hunger. Extreme weather events such as drought and floods have wiped out entire crop seasons across Africa ion recent months, further fuelling food insecurity. In this policy brief, Power Shift Africa and Germanwatch argue that extensive investments in industrialised agriculture have not secured food for the world, much less for Africa.
