The Bangladesh climate change strategy and action plan 2009 is presented in two parts. The first part provides the background issues based on physical and climatic contexts, core socio-economic realities and policies in the country and the consequent rationale for a strategy on climate change based on the vision for future development of the country. The thrust of the strategy is on sustainable development, poverty eradication and increased well-being of all vulnerable groups in society with special emphasis on gender sensitivity. The second part elaborates a set of programmes based upon on six pillars of broad areas of intervention which have been identified in the first part.
