Safe conduct? twelve years fishing under the UN code [1]

This report evaluates the compliance of 53 countries with the requirements of Article 7 of the UN Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, published after all-nation agreement in 1995. The Code of Conduct is a voluntary agreement with no legal force in international law, but its scope and depth are far greater than the legal instruments which have been successfully negotiated, such as the UN Fish Stocks Agreement. Despite a rather legal tone to the language, the profundity and scope of the Code is striking. Most fisheries experts agree that the Code itself is fine piece of work and its widespread and meaningful implementation would likely solve most of the world
