The health impacts of air pollution depend on the pollutant type, its concentration in the air, length of exposure, other pollutants in the air, and individual susceptibility. The undernourished, very young and very old, and people with preexisting respiratory disease and other ill health, may be more affected by the same concentrations than healthy people. Additionally, developing country poor tend to live and work in the most heavily polluted areas. They are more likely to cook with dirtier fuels resulting in higher levels of indoor and outdoor air pollution. As a result, their elevated risk due to
health factors is exacerbated by their increased exposure to PM. This paper focuses on the health impact assessment of air pollution.
