This report examines the performance of the electricity sector in Rajasthan by applying a Financial Sustainability Electricity Sector (FSES) approach based on the analytical framework developed by the Global Subsidies Initiative. Four aspects of performance are assessed, including the ability to: recover operating costs; reliably meet demand; make investments; and operate according to environmental and social norms. Since 2000, the Rajasthan State Electricity Board has been through a process of unbundling in the power sector, leading to government-owned distribution companies (discoms) and an increasing share of private players in the generation sector.
