Greenhouse gases emission and potential carbon sequestration: a case study of semi-arid area in South India [1]

Global warming and climate change have made adoption measures essential, more so in semi arid regions. Kolar district is typical of semi arid regions with a low Development Index in Karnataka State. Greenhouse gases emissions from various
sectors are in tune of 2717 kilotons, however, with a significant potential in the district for Carbon Emission Reduction (15,572 tCO2) and carbon Sequestration measures (3,508,010 tons CO2e) under Kyoto Protocol. If developed, revenues from these measures can enable to realize Millennium Development Goals in district faster.
