Lifestyle diseases the biggest killer in India today [1]

The new report from Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) released yesterday held lifestyle diseases like obesity, mental health, cancer and heart diseases to count a few, as the major killers in India. Revealing the links of air pollution with mental diseases, it stated that air pollution is responsible for 30 per cent of premature deaths in India while every third child in Delhi has impaired lungs.

Body Burden: Lifestyle Diseases, the latest report on the state of India’s health, investigates and exposes the new and emerging environmental triggers of NCDs in India. The report, released here today by a panel of eminent medical doctors, establishes that unless environmental risk factors are acknowledged and dealt with, India will not be able to curb NCDs, responsible for more than 61 per cent of the deaths in the country.
