Judgement of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Common Cause & Other Vs Union of India & Others dated 23/01/2017 regarding coal block allocation cases. The Apex Court ordered a probe against former chief of the investigation agency Ranjit Sinha in connection with the coal block allocation case.

The petition relates to the massive scam that occurred in the allocation of a precious natural resource, i.e. coal, causing loss to the public exchequer running into tens of lakhs of crores of rupees.

A writ petition in public interest under Article 32 of the Constitution of India seeking cancellation of the entire allocation of coal blocks to private companies between the year 1993-2012 and seeking a thorough court monitored investigation into the said allocation by the CBI or an SIT, for the enforcement of the rule of law and the rights guaranteed under Article 14 and 21 of the Constitution of India.
