Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding illegal operation of a large number of stone quarrying and stone crushing units in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 28/05/2019
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Human Rights Association of India Vs Principal Secretary, Port Blair & Others dated 28/05/2019 regarding illegal operation of a large number of stone quarrying and stone crushing units in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The stone mining is being carried out without Environmental Clearance and most of the crushing units are operating without Consent to Operate some of which have also do not have the necessary CRZ clearance. The areas where such activities are being undertaken have been indicated as South and North-Middle Andaman.
The NGT directs a joint inspection to be conducted to verify as to whether the stone mining/stone are operating without the necessary statutory clearances or not. In the event if they are found to be operating illegally, the Andaman & Nicobar Pollution Control Committee and the MoEF&CC has been directed to to take appropriate action in accordance with law.
