An all-party delegation led by Alappuzha Municipality chairperson Mercy Diana Macido, along with Union Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal, will visit Chief Minister Ooomen Chandy on Monday evening to seek the State government's help in sanctioning the Rs.2 crore project to tackle the waste problem in the municipality.

With piles of waste mounting in Alappuzha town, the municipality has decided to act tough by imposing a fine on those found throwing waste in public places.

Waste dumps have been mounting in the town for the last few days following suspension of transportation of waste to the waste processing plant at Sarvodayapuram from May 16. The municipality's attempt to transport waste to the plant this Monday was strongly opposed by the local people.

Cherthala municipal chairperson Jayalakshmi Anilkumar said that it was planning to install e-toilets in the municipality.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the municipal chairperson said that three e-toilets with a total estimate of Rs 15.75 lakh will be installed in three locations in the municipality.
