Judgement of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Arjun Gopal vs Union Of India dated 12/09/2017 regarding use of fireworks, sparklers and minor explosives in any form, during festivals or otherwise. Supreme Court said that a graded regulation is necessary which would eventually result in a prohibition.

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Arjun Gopal Vs Union of India & Others dated 31/07/2017 regarding air pollution by the bursting of firecrackers. Supreme Court directs that no fire-crackers manufactured shall contain antimony, lithium, mercury, arsenic and lead in any form whatsoever and it is the responsibility of the Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organisation (PESO) to ensure compliance particularly in Sivakasi. Apex Court also makes it clear that for setting up of standards, collaborative efforts will be made between CPCB and PESO.
