PC has ordered that no person/persons/party shall dump and throw any kind of Mulba/garbage/carcasses/construction refuse etc around Air force compound wall, Civil Airport wall, Panjthirthi to Sidhra bridge, circular road to DC office and Wazarat road.

Any person found guilty in the regard would be booked under law.

J.L.Sharma, Director Horticulture, Jammu reviewed the progress of implementation of Horticulture Technology Mission Programme and other Developmental Schemes under operation in Kathua district in a meeting with all the district Block level Officers today at Horticulture complex, Kathua. Director Horticulture took stock of progress made under current rainy season Plantation Programme in the Qistrict and P J.L.Raina, Chief Horticulture Officer, Kathua informed that 312 hectare being taken under fruit plantation in all the four blocks viz.

Gladni station repairs not enough, long-term solution needed

Jammuites heaved a sigh of relief from the hot and humid weather after heavy rains lashed several parts of the region this morning. The rains also brought relief for curfew-hit city residents, who were facing unscheduled long power curtailments after the mother Grid Station Gladni was damaged in a fire here on Wednesday night. Heavy rains lashed almost all the parts of the region, reports here said. "The downpour in Jammu city was measured 20.5 mm in the morning," Met department said.

JAMMU: A day after the J&K government decided to scrap the controversial land transfer to the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) which sparked off protests across the valley, the saffron brigade forced a complete shutdown in Jammu on Monday. The bandh call was given by BJP and its allies against what they called "the politicization and surrender of the state government to separatist forces on the issue of allotment of land to SASB". Shops, schools and colleges were closed while roads were deserted. There was thin attendance in government and private offices.

Reiterating government's commitment to ensure equitable development of all the regions of the state, Minister for Rural Development and Panchyat Raj Mula Ram inaugurated Gurah Pattan lift irrigation scheme worth Rs. 110.46 lakh from Ranbir Canal here today. This project had been started in 2004-05 under NABARD in the left bank of river Chenab in Ranbir Canal to cater to the irrigation requirements of agriculture land of 800 acres.

People, administration are equally culpable

Indian Council for Enviro Legal Action (ICELA), J&K Chapter organized a seminar on Environment scenario in JK in collaboration with State Pollution Control Board at Forest house, Jammu. Ashok Sharma MLC and Chairman ICELA was the chief guest on the occasion while Abhay Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forest presided. As many as 10 speakers presented their papers on the topic and laid emphasis on preserving the plants from the wrath of pollution and eroding forests. They also suggested various means to enrich environment and check pollution.

Kawa College of Education today organised a symposium on 'Environmental Degradation'. As per a press release, participants present were of the view about the rising population and industrial developments are responsible for the environmental degradation. The global problems of the green house effect, climate change, ozone depletion and acid rain were also highlighted. At the end, principal Dr P C Abrol addressed the students and expressed his gratitude on the active involvement of students in such activities.

Rice is a staple food of a large majority of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. Being a predominantly hill state, the area is mostly sloppy & undulating, rain fed coupled with erratic weather. However out of 15027 thousand quintals of total foodgrain production in the state, 30.49 per cent comes from rice (2004-05).
