Independent report filed by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply in Original Application No. 145 of 2020 (Southern Zone) in the matter of 'Tribunal on its own motion - Suo Motu based on the news item in Dinamalar newspaper Chennai edition dated August 5, 2020 'Retteri lake become a sewage water pond - Will Jayalalitha's dream project be fulfilled?".
The report by the CMWSSB said that there was no letting out of sewage into Vinayagapuram drain and Korattur surplus canal from the surrounding streets at present.
The sewage collected from 544 numbers of streets in depot 24 and depot 25 where the under ground sewerage scheme (UGSS) had already been available is conveyed to Kodungaiyar sewage treatment plant (STP) for treatment through 5 existing sewage pumping stations. An average of 13.50 megaliters (ML) of sewage is being collected per day from the surrounding streets of Vinayagapuram drain and Koratur surplus canal and disposed of to Kodungaiyur STP for further treatment.
A detailed project report has been prepared for providing UGSS for the 236 number of sewer left out streets and the same is under appraisal in TUFIDCO.
