Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding discharge of untreated sewage at Lar, district Deoria, Uttar Pradesh in open, 29/10/2021
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Noorul Sehar Lari Vs State of Uttar Pradesh & Others dated 29/10/2021. Grievance in the application is against discharge of untreated sewage at Lar, district Deoria, Uttar Pradesh in open on land having Khasra No. 1712 with an area of 0.1980 hectares.
An action taken report by a joint committee, September 29, 2021 informed the NGT that the dumping of drain water by the Nagar Panchayat Lar has been completely stopped. The water from the drain is being treated by the process of bioremediation. Further, a septic tank has been made and now no flow of sewerage in nala.
The NGT noted that the report mentions that bio-remediation process has been adopted and design has been prepared for seeking funds - the effectiveness of the steps taken needs to be crossed checked "so that if there are positive results, the same can be a model to be followed to tackle the wide spread problem of sewage management", the NGT order said.
Accordingly, the bench of Justices Adarsh Kumar Goel, Sudhir Agarwal and Brijesh Sethi directed that a five member joint committee undertake visit to the site to ascertain the compliance status and recommend a model which may be helpful for tackling the problems of septage management at such small places such as places with less than one lakh population.
