Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Rita Sharma & Others Vs State of Himachal Pradesh dated 16/01/2024.
The matter related to disposal of municipal waste within the Municipal Council, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh.
Reply filed by the Municipal Council, Hamirpur, December 29, 2023 which stated that steps for legacy waste have already been taken and treatment and disposal of legacy waste is continuously going on. With regard to daily waste generation and its processing, it is said that 6.2 tons per day is the daily generation and for its processing, tender process is going on, which may be finalized within the next 10 days. It is said that initially the quantum of legacy waste was estimated to be around 2000 MT but subsequently, it has been found that it was much deeper and hence, a total quantity may be much more and as a rough estimate it may be upto 1000 MT and therefore, its disposal may take some longer time.
The NGT, January 16, 2024 directed the Municipal Council, Hamirpur to file a fresh report giving the latest status in terms of setting up waste processing plant and remediating legacy waste as on March 31, 2024 by filing its report by April 10, 2024.
