Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Ashwinbhai Dayabhai Patel & Others Vs State of Gujarat dated 24/01/2022.
The application is received from residents of Hansol village, Ahmedabad, complaining about the dumping of dead animals, human excretions and industrial chemical waste as well as biomedical waste in river Sabarmati through storm rain water drain (Naroda to Hansol). It is submitted that sewage water, chemical waste as well as biomedical waste is being released into the Sabarmati river.
The NGT directed a joint committee to ascertain the factual position in the matter comprising of officials from the CPCB, Gujarat Pollution Control Board, District Magistrate, Ahmedabad, Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) and Municipal Commissioner, Ahmedabad. The Joint Committee has been directed to meet within four weeks and look into the grievance and a factual and action taken report furnished within three months.
