Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding a gaushala violating environmental norms, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, 04/08/2023
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Santoshpur Mitali Sangha Vs State of West Bengal & Others dated 04/08/2023.
The matter related to illegally operation of a ‘Gaushala’ in the name and style of ‘Suravi Sadan Gaushala’ under the Rajasthan Gokalyan Trust. It is alleged that the said Gaushala is operating for several years without a valid Consent to Establish and Consent to Operate from the West Bengal Pollution Control Board. It was also alleged that the Gaushala was operating in violation of the provisions of Guidelines for Environmental Management of Dairy Farms and Gaushalas’ published by the Central Pollution Control Board in July, 2021.
Further, dung and fodder residues were washed into the drains leading to clogging of the drains.
The NGT, taking into consideration the complaint, directed a three member committee to visit the site in question and submit a report within four weeks with respect to the allegations. If the violations are found, the committee will suggest remedial measures as well as determine the Environmental Compensation and the concerned officers of the various departments would also initiate appropriate steps for taking action against the violator as per law, the order of the Eastern Bench of NGT said.
