Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding muck disposal in river Dhauliganga, Chamoli, Uttarakhand, 02/01/2020
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Gram Pradhan & Residents of Tapoban Vs State of Uttarakhand dated 02/01/2020 regarding loss to inhabitants in the course of construction of barrage by National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) in the year 2005 for which land of the people was taken for the Vaishnugad project in village Tapovan, District Chamoli, State of Uttarakhand but no employment was given.
Report furnished by the Uttarakhand State Pollution Control Board (USPCB) show that there is possibility of the muck reaching the Dhauliganga river system which needs to be prevented by way of adequate protective measures. The NGT directed the NTPC and the Tehri Development Corporation Limited (TDCL) to take necessary steps in the matter. An expert committee comprising of Himalayan Forest Research Institute, Shimla, Central Soil and Water Conservation Research and Training Institute, Dehradun and the USPCB have been asked to identify steps to prevent muck disposal. The Committee has been asked to give its report within one month.
