Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding unrestricted construction of hotels and resorts alongside Jayanti dam, Alipurdua, West Bengal, 18/11/2021
Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Tribunal on its Own Motion (Re: Unrestricted construction of Hotels, Resorts in Jayanti Vs State of West Bengal & Others dated 18/11/2021.
The matter was taken up by the NGT in view of an article published in the local daily “Uttar Banga Sangbad” wherein it was alleged that unrestricted construction of hotels and resorts is going on alongside the Jayanti dam. It is also alleged that permanent construction of these hotels and resorts are in full swing along the PHE bungalow which is located alongside the Jayanti dam. One such construction at the end of the dam shows steel equipment and material. The construction has been set-up on steel frame. It is also alleged that the building equipment are being transported through the Rajabhatkhaoa gate of the forest department.
The NGT directed notice to be issued to the state of West Bengal, Department of Forest & Environment; Principal Chief Conservator of Forest & Head of Forest Force; Field Director, Buxa Tiger Reserve and District Magistrate, Alipurdua. The court also directed the District Magistrate, Alipurduar to inspect the site in question personally and file a report within three weeks.
