TNPCB report on steps taken to stop discharge of waste into Uyyakondan canal, Trichy, Tamil Nadu, 14/09/2021
Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board report in Original Application No 112 of 2020 (Southern Zone) in the matter of Suo Motu Vs The Principal Secretary to Government, Public Works Department, Chennai & Others.
The matter related to delay in starting the cultivation due to non-maintenance of Uyyakondan canal.
In pursuance to the NGT (SZ), Chennai order, March 24, 2021, the M/s Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, Trichy was inspected by the TNPCB officials on August 5, 2021 and August 11, 2021.
The hospital has stopped the septic tank overflow discharge from December 9, 2020 into the Uyyakondan channel. The Trichy City Municipal Corporation is conveying the septic tank overflow in their tankers to Trichy Corporation STP pumping station and treating it in the existing Trichy Corporation STP.
Laying of pipelines for connecting septic overflow collection wells in the hospital premises to the nearby Trichy City Municipal Corporation's STP pumping station is under progress and would be completed before September 30, 2021. Further, during an inspection conducted on August 5 and August 11, 2021 - no sewage was discharged into Uyyakondon channel.
