Location: On the Balui River, 37 km from Belaga town, Sarawak

Catchment area: 14, 750 sq km

Reservoir area: 69,000 ha, containing 43.8 cu m of water

Hydroelectric output: 2,400 MW (eight generating units of 300 MW each)

Height of the dam: 205 m

Transmission through:
• a 170 km high voltage (HV) AC transmission line from Bakun to Bintulu

• two 675 km parallel HVDC transmission lines from Bakun to Datu at the western tip of Sarawak

• three 650 km long submarine HVDC cable lines from Sarawak to Johor, through the seabed of the South China Sea

• a 325 km HVDC transmission line from Johor to Kuala Lumpur
