THE World Bank (WR) has admitted that its assessment of the Sardar Sarovar Project did not adhere to many of its own guidelines. In an internal memo prepared by the Operations Evaluations Division, it has described its own approach to the project as "delinquent".
The WB's resettlement and rehabilitation guidelines, designed to ensure resettlement of project affected families, were not followed in total; nor were its own environmental guidelines.
The Project Completion Report of the WB has described the future of the project and the "sustainability of the project achievements" as "uncertain". The memo foresees delays by at least 2 years in both the irrigation and energy generation schedules.
