Wastewater pollution from industries could now easily be monitored by using a new BODSEED technology. Researchers at the Centre for Biochemical Technology (CBT), New Delhi, have devised this technique that would replace the conventional method of using sewage as a marker for water pollution. Rita Kumar at the CBT, says that the technology consists of a broad selection of microbial population that degrade organic matter in waste sample. It would help determine the strength of water pollution, waste loading in treatment plants and the efficiency of treatment plants.
