Nearly 10,000 persons accompanied the 127 persons observing an indefinite fast at Idinthakarai against the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project on Monday.
Bishop of Tuticorin RC Diocese Yvon Ambroise, who participated in the fast being held near St. Lourdes Church in the coastal hamlet along with 25 priests, said that though the Union Government had spent over Rs. 13,000 crore for constructing these two nuclear reactors, it should be closed down as the lives and livelihood of people living around the project site were more valuable than the money spent.
