Mines situated within this buffer zone should be closed in a phased manner, says Parrikar

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Monday the State government will not allow any new mining leases up to 2 km of wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. The Chief Minister told presspersons on the sidelines of a function in the city on Monday: “Our view is that those mines situated between 100 metres to 1 km of the wildlife sanctuaries be closed in a phased manner over a period of 5 to 10 years.
