•The Survival International a London-based charity for the protection of the rights of tribal people worldwide, has launched an online signature campaign for the protection of the rights of Jarawa tribes of Andaman islands. The petition is directed against constant invasion of the Jarawa reserve, much to the detriment of the original inhabitants.

• Kagaj Kurani , a short Bangladeshi film on children who pick waste paper from city streets, has been selected for the Asian Children Film Festival to be held in Hyderabad from November 14 to 20. The 20 minute film is directed by Shahiduzzaman Badal and produced by Palash Visual Communication. It portrays a day in the life of a ragpicker Lalu, and his friends.

• Two Kalahari Bushmen from Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Botswana staged a protest outside a De Beers shop in London and the Botswana High commission over their forced eviction from their ancestral lands. The two were protesting against their homelands being turned into a haven for diamond prospectors.



• Indian writer Arundhati Roy has announced that she will donate her Sydney Peace Prize worth US $50,000 for aborginal political activities in Australia.
