The camp will ensure quick reaction in man-animal conflict
Tamil Nadu Government has sanctioned Rs. 1.5 crore to set up a kumki elephant (tamed/trained) camp at Chadivayal at the foothills of Siruvani.
The Forest Department has nearly 60 kumki elephants at its elephant camps in Mudumalai and at Anamalai Tiger Reserve. The Coimbatore camp will be the third kumki camp in the State and the first kumki camp outside a sanctuary area. TheDepartment has identified a few male elephants and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden Gautam Dey will inspect the site and the elephants and pass final orders allotting two elephants to the camp.
