Teak planter warned

PEOPLE who want to put their money in teakwood plantation schemes that look attractive on the surface should think twice, advises D N Tiwari, director general of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education. He also cautions investors against corporate plantations which promise to raise teakwood and yield high returns.

Tiwari thinks the figures given out by the sponsors could be based on what was found in some other countries because teak varieties in India are yet to substantiate the claims being made. His council will make information on the reliability and feasibility of such claims public, he said.
