OneWorld, the online sustainable development and human rights network, keeps at its mission of bridging the geographical and ideological gap among the developmental community. On May 17, the United Nations World Telecommunications Day, they entered another web initiative called the Digital Opportunity Channel (DOC) - a web portal and online community.

Focussed on sharing of information among developmental and human rights organisations, DOC is OneWorld's joint initiative with the Benton Foundation, a New York based non-governmental organisation working to promote information technology for public interest. Terming the channel as the voice of the South, Kanti Kumar, DOC's India editor, says the channel lays special emphasis on developing countries as they have been marginalised in terms of benefits from the information technology revolution.

Wth over 1,250 organisations as partners, this venture is a step towards making the world a smaller place, at least for those involved in issue-based activism.
