World Bank raises funds for Gujarat roads to $550 million
GANDHINAGAR: In a major boost for Gujarat's roads, the World Bank (WB) has agreed to a state government request to revise upwards its proposal to fund Gujarat State Highways Project (GSHP-II) from $350 million to $550 million. A WB note, made available here, says "improvement of about 1,100 km (650 km widening and 450 km strengthening) would be accommodated within this amount."
The Gujarat government had earlier asked for the amount to be raised to $600 million. It applied for GSHP-II loan in 2009 after successfully executing the $550 million GSHP-I project between 2001 and 2007.
