Joint committee report on stone crushers in Garlavoddu village, Khammam district, Telangana, 31/10/2022
Report of the Joint Committee constituted in the Original Application No. 368 of 2022 in the matter of Abhilash Vs State of Telangana.
The applicant Abhilash Chowdary of Garlavoddu village, Enkoor Zone, Khammam district, Telangana stated that the hills and forests around the village are being completely destroyed due to operation of stone crushers and also illegal mining in and around the village. He also stated that M/s Sri Lakshmi Narsimha Stone Crusher is "plying heavy lorries and tractors with 14, 12 and 10 tyres from the village thereby damaging the village roads and creating problems to the villagers."
The joint committee visited the site, October 21, 2022.
During inspection of the committee it was observed that Sri Lakshmi Narsimha Stone crusher is situated in an area of 3.5 acres of land and surrounded by agricultural land on east and west side and hillocks on north and south side.
Forest officials said that there are no forest lands/reserve forests within 4 to 5 kms from the site. The said lands are purely revenue lands though covered by hillocks and tree growth. "Due to dense tree cover, the applicant had mistaken it for forest," the report to the NGT, October 31, 2022 said.
Further, no tree felling permission was requested and issued to the mining site by the forest department. The animals generally found present in the area and sighted by people were black naped hare, common birds and reptiles. To ascertain flora and fauna biodiversity in the area, a detailed survey has to be conducted over a period of one month with the help of field biologists and a report regarding the same and about wildlife movement has to be prepared.
