To promote the market for city compost in India, the Government of India came out with a fixed subsidy under its policy on promotion for city compost. But this failed due to lack of implementation and has seen very dispersed stakeholder participation. There is clearly a demand for city compost in the agrarian sector in India, but the acceptability of the product has been marred by poor quality and low return of investment.
CSE, in an analysis of the gaps in the existing composting policy of India, has suggested changes to strengthen the current marketing mechanisms and policy of city compost in India.
