The Re-awakening Project has taken steps to rehabilitate the Karavahu Drainage Scheme in Kalmunai to prevent frequent floods in the Kalmunai area during the rainy season.

The World Bank has granted Rs.1,038 million to implement this project, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009, Project Director P.H. Sugathadasa said.

The irrigation re-awakening project with the World Bank assistance of Rs.385 million has taken initiatives to rehabilitate Giants Tank, one of the major irrigation tanks in the Mannar district, Project Director P.H. Sugathadasa said at a progress review meeting at the site last week.
