In 2011-12, projects covering 7,994 km were awarded

After a three-month lull, the government has set the ball rolling for giving out Rs 14,000-crore worth of national highway projects. About 40 companies will be in the fray for 30-odd projects in this tranche. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the road transport and highways ministry are currently engaged in appraisal of the request for qualifications, said a senior ministry official.

With many highway projects finding it difficult to reach financial closure, the government is seeking a review of guidelines for lending to such projects.

The fertiliser industry is seeking a higher cap on urea cost than the proposed $340 a tonne for the purpose of calculating subsidy to the new plants.
