The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body under the Union Power Ministry, is targeting to train 5,000 A/C showroom salesmen across the country on energy efficient choice this year as part of a national education programme on star labelling for air-conditioners. Of this, around 850 salesmen will be trained from Kerala.

Kolkata: To encourage the Centre to change its procurement policy in favour of buying energy efficient goods, the British High Commission has begun supporting a project on developing policy guidelines in this regard.

Initial estimates by the New Delhi-based Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) suggest that around 1,650 MW of electricity was saved countrywide during FY10 through the use of star-rated air-conditioners, refrigerators, tube-lights and colour TVs. This includes nearly 350 MW saved by CTVs alone.

Refrigerators, transformers, ACs and tubelights would be brought under the mandatory labelling of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) from January 7, a top BEE official said on Friday.
